Top Rope Anchors/Topside Management

Objective: To gain the knowledge and understanding to feel comfortable building top-rope anchors at the top of any accessible cliff with natural anchor points.

Duration: 1 day

Price: $370.00 divided by four attendees to one guide

This single day course is designed for climbers looking to become comfortable building solid anchors for top-rope settings. Building your own top-rope anchor is an essential skill for outdoor rock climbers and while attending this program you will have ample time to learn the skills and practice while under the guidance of our professional PCGI guides and instructors. Our professional staff will focus on what equipment is necessary to stage solid, redundant anchors on natural features found at the top of a cliff.

This course will be taught at a 4:1 ratio maximum. We as a guide service limit this clinic to a ratio of no more than four participants to one guide as any more people at the top of the cliff could be dangerous and prevent the group from covering all the material in a timely manner while gauging individual performance.

Prerequisites/Requirements: A general understanding of top-roping vs. lead climbing, an ability to tie oneself to the rope, belay, and a positive attitude.

What participants should expect to gain from this full day course is the knowledge and understanding to feel comfortable building top-rope anchors at the top of any accessible cliff with natural anchor points as well as the confidence to discuss constructing these systems with climbing partners. Clients will be comfortable with the use of different belay devices and will be familiar with several methods to keep belayer’s of differing weights secure while climbers ascend and lower. Through this course participants will learn and comprehend all the most modern techniques up to the standards of the Professional Climbing Guides Institute as of 2020.
