Multi-Pitch Traditional Climbing

Objective: Within this advanced course participants will build upon what was covered within our ‘Intro to Trad Climbing’ but our guides teach systems that allow our clients to go higher, explore further and have significantly better adventures.

Duration: 1 day

Price: $370.00 for two clients per guide

This course is geared for clients who have taken the ‘Introduction to Single Pitch Traditional Climbing’ and are ready to further their knowledge and expand on the skills they have been using/practicing up to this point. This multi-pitch lead climbing course will get your “systems” up to the level to feel comfortable leading and following longer classic climbs on the North American Continent. This is also an excellent course for anyone looking to pursue technical Alpine objectives as well as multi-pitch trad as our guides teach techniques to move fast in the mountains.

This course will be taught at either a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio maximum. We as a guide service limit the ratio to no more than 2:1 as any more participants would prevent us from covering all the material in a timely manner while gauging performance.

Prerequisites/Requirements: Introduction to Single Pitch Traditional Climbing

Within this advanced course participants will build upon what was covered within our ‘Intro to Trad Climbing’ but will teach systems that allow our clients to go higher, explore further and have significantly better adventures. Within this course we cover topics such as traditional anchor building techniques, belay station management, a plan of action for belaying off the anchor, belaying off the harness or redirecting the belay, lowering partners safely while on different belay devices, hauling partners unable to climb further, and techniques to get back to the ground safely in the advent of bad weather or an emergency. We also teach and explain how to prevent factor two falls and why, communication skills between climbers when voice commands are impossible, equipment handling skills, energy conservation and efficiency, and lastly safe rappelling techniques or success with walk offs.

You will spend an intensive day with one of our expert PCGI Guides/Instructors working on all the skills and techniques specific to leading multi-pitch traditional routes.
